Wow what a past couple of crazy days it has been!! For many college girls across the nation, August is a month full of work, lost voices, emotions, and a whole lot of FUN. Sorority Recruitment is a hectic yet an ahhhmazing experience!!

While work week and recruitment can be very draining it is all worth it because it leads up to the most exciting day…BID DAY. I like to think of bid day as basically a Christmas for college girls. It is a huge celebration for girls going through recruitment and for girls who have done all the recruiting. At the University of Arkansas, greek life, sets up a huge celebration at the Greek Theatre. All sororities circle around and have the time of their lives until the new members open their bid cards.

Bid Day at the University of Arkansas Greek Theatre

Once the new members find their “new home” they run to their sorority + this is where all the hard work from prior weeks really pays off. I am a member of Delta Delta Delta, and our Bid Day theme was “colorrun”. Let me just say that was messy yet SO MUCH FUN.

After zero hours of sleep + a lost voice, I have never been so excited to see smiling girls pledge the sorority of their dreams. To those new members out there…hold on tight and enjoy the ride. The next four years of your life are about to be a BLAST.

Season of Fresh Starts

Screen Shot 2017-06-16 at 6.40.07 PM

Today marks the first day of August and it is crazy to think that I head back to the hill this Sunday!! For many people, this month, is one of the busiest months of all. It is the start of a new school year, start of new classes, start of sorority recruitment, start of new adventures, start of new spaces, the start of a fresh new year. With many “new” things that come along within the year, it can always spark some anxieties + stress. However fresh starts can allow us to start our year off in a positive direction. I have compiled a list of ways you can start your season of fresh starts on the right foot!

  1. Take time for Yourself– yes, YOU do need time to be with just YOU. Life can get busy + overwhelming. It is important, especially during the school year, to make time to do things you enjoy for yourself. That maybe working out daily, watching Netflix (but limiting your time—hahaha), or even just going on a walk. I have learned when I get anxious and take time to do things my soul desires I calm down immediately from everything going on in my life
  2. Seek Jesus Daily– If I have learned anything about starting new school years, it is that seeking Jesus ALWAYS is the greatest blessing of all. When you walk with Jesus on your campus you can simply be a light of his saving grace to those around you.
  3. Stay Organized!– I love staying organized (for the most part). I am a BIG FAN of planners. Writing down all of your to-do’s can allow an ease of stress when you have a busy life! Also, once you begin your classes, begin getting organized immediately! I like to create different folders on my laptop for any digital files and then a separate binder for any hardcopies.
  4. Connect to those around you– It is important that you connect with friends, classmates, and family daily. People you love can always be a positive influence for your new year.
  5. Remember the WHY. – There is always a reason we are doing “something”. For example we do not just go to school to sit in a classroom and listen to a lecture, we go because there is a reason. I go to class because I want to be come a teacher in the future! It is important when we have no motivation to always remember the WHY!

Best wishes to everyone on the start of a new school year! May this be the best one yet!

St.Jude Celebration 2017

Screen Shot 2017-06-16 at 6.40.07 PM

This past weekend I had the privilege to attend the 2017 St.Jude Tri Delta Leadership Conference in Memphis, TN. The weekend was full of love, hope, joy, and so much passion. There is so much heart in Memphis…especially at St.Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

The weekend began with an evening of entertainment, sisterhood, and of course a yummy dinner! Tri Delta sister, Emree Franklin, kicked off the weekend with some fun music! She is so stinkin’ cute + talented so make sure and check her out on youtube! After entertainment, night one, concluded with table conversations with different girls from all over the USA and Canada. Discussion topics ranged from ideas of how to better fundraise to learning about other Tri Delta chapters nation-wide.

Day two was FULL of fun. We began the day bright + early at 8am with a breakfast buffet. After our bellies were oh so full, we had the opportunity to listen to St.Jude ALSAC  President and CEO, Richard Shadyac. Shadyac focused on discussing to us about igniting your passion for your life. He talked about life is more than just materialistic things, but it’s about how you will influence the world around you. I gained so much out of what he had to say because it is so true.

Shortly after the keynote speakers we all gathered around for an award ceremony. I was completely caught of guard when I received the 2016-2017 Philanthropy Chairman of the Year.

We continued the day getting to have the opportunity to listen from St.Jude patients and family. This was by far my favorite part of the weekend. Getting to hear each of their stories was so inspiring. All of the patients had normal lives until cancer took a toll on them. However, they were all still so joyful + grateful. As well we celebrated with each of them an almost cancer free life! They ended with a simple “thank you” and I balled my eyes out. These kids are walking miracles.

The rest of the day consisted of being on the St.Jude campus. I had the chance to tour the hospital again and learn from St.Jude staff on how to spread the mission of St.Jude. As well I got to spend the whole day with some of the sweetest girls from the SEC!

We finished the weekend eating some memphis bbq at Central BBQ (SOOOOO GOOD) and toured the Civil Rights Museum.  It was such a fun day!!!!

Before leaving memphis I of course had to stop by the cutest bakery. The Tuohy family from, The Blindside,  own a super cute cookie shop called, The Whimsey Cookie Co. Y’all it is so good!!!!

Leaving Memphis, I am reminded of how precious life is. There are kids fighting for their lives right now, yet they are still some of the most joyful people regardless of the pain they are enduring. St.Jude continues to strive to find cures for childhood cancer and they will not stop until no child dies from cancer.

St.Jude families do not have to pay for any treatment, housing, travel, food, etc., because all they need to worry about is helping their child live. I encourage you to check out this amazing hospital. There are many opportunities to donate to this great cause.

Yesterday was full of fireworks, hamburgers, and a whole lot of RED, WHITE, & BLUE!! I absolutely just loveeeee fourth of July because it is basically a big party for the beautiful USA!!! I love getting the chance to have such a happy holiday in the summer that is always spent with family + friends.

This fourth of July was a bit different, in NW Arkansas we experienced some weird weather. It would rain for a bit + then the sunshine + then another downpour. However, we did luck out with the perfect weather to blast off some ahhhhhmazing fireworks!

I also love the fourth of July because it is an excuse to bring out the red, white, and blue for your wardrobe. This fourth of July I decided to go with a WildFox “Young American” Tee, in which I purchased from Steam Roller Blues in Rogers, Ar. This shirt was so comfy + patriotic which was a #win!! I completed the outfit with a red bandana purchased from Hobby Lobby. I love adding a bandana to looks, because it is cute and very inexpensive! For the rest of my accessories I added a star halo just for fun (Hobby Lobby) + star earrings (Masons Fayetteville, AR).

Of course no fourth of July is complete without all-american food! At my house we had the classic american meal…hamburgers + fries!!!! (my favorite!!) Our dessert consisted of red, white, and blue Bomb Pops, and these ADORABLE star cookies baked by my bestie Peyton’s sweet mother!

jumpin’ for joy for another successful 4th of July!!!!! I would also like to extend my gratitude to those who serve in our Armed Forces, without you we would not be able to have the freedoms that we are so blessed to have. You truly are the anchor behind our country + we are so thankful for y’all.

hope everyone had such a fun fourth!!!

treat yo self…to an apple watch.

Screen Shot 2017-06-16 at 6.40.07 PM

happy sunday friends!! today I thought I would share with you all my most recent purchase, the Apple Watch. Now before I get into details, I thought it would be fun to do a “treat yo self” series, so be on the lookout for some more of these fun reads…but first I got to make some more cha-ching before I can treat my-self, again.  (hee hee)

I have to be  honest with you, I was so indecisive about buying the Apple Watch. I had done my research about this product, and found many positive feedbacks from it. I did have a few friends who said they never really used theirs, but I also had friends who said it was so worth the investment. After much research and a LOT of hesitation, I made the move to go buy one.

Note, I was first indecisive about buying one, but then the next decision came…what color?! I was torn between the rose gold and the white watch. I am such a fan of rose gold, however I started to persuade myself to buy the white. I new in the end that white would go with everything. Therefore, I just made myself go to Sam’s Club, and I then bought the Apple Watch Series 2 in white/silver.

It has been about a month since I purchased my watch, and let me tell ya it has been one of my best purchases ever. I love the fact that not only it can tell me what time it is, but it can also tell me how many calories I am burning, calculate my heart rate, direct me to the nearest sonic, and soooo much more.

The most use I get out of my Apple Watch is when I go to workout. Lately, I have been getting back into the groove of working out at Barre 3. What is really neat about using my watch is that I can press one simple button and when I am doing my workout it will tell me how many calories I am burning along with my heart rate…I mean how neat is that!

Another feature I find so amazing is the GPS navigation. As you can imagine the watch connects directly with your phone. I can put a location on my phone of where I am wanting to go + it directly syncs with my watch. The coolest thing though, is why I am driving my watch with vibrate before I am suppose to take a turn!! Wow, Apple out did themselves on that one!

The last feature that I find so neat, is the texting feature. I do not know about you, but I find myself in social settings always checking my phone. However, with the watch, I can directly get my texts on my watch without even checking my phone. It is the best when I am at dinner with friends and I can glance down at my watch to see if someone texted me + if I really need to text them back immediately.

In conclusion, I find the Apple Watch as a MUST HAVE. There are so many benefits to this product + everyone can find a way to use this in their everyday life. So if today you are looking for a way to treat yo self, than I suggest that you look into buying an Apple Watch!

Good Good Father

Screen Shot 2017-06-16 at 6.40.07 PM

My freshman winter break, I attended a conference in OKC, dedicated to minister to college students by diving deep into the Word of God. At this conference we had huge break out session filled with worship, lessons, and key-note speakers. During one of our worships the band led us into a new song called, “Good Good Father”, by Chris Tomlin. I began singing these words and I remember tears filling my eyes because, while singing, I felt overjoyed by Jesus’s presence in that auditorium and in my life.

If you’re unfamiliar with this song, here are the lyrics (I bolded my favorite parts).

I’ve heard a thousand stories of what they think you’re like
But I’ve heard the tender whispers of love in the dead of night
And you tell me that you’re pleased
And that I’m never alone
You’re a good good father
It’s who you are, it’s who you are, it’s who you are
And I’m loved by you
It’s who I am, it’s who I am, it’s who I am
I’ve seen many searching for answers far and wide
But I know we’re all searching
For answers only you provide
‘Cause you know just what we need
Before we say a word
You’re a good good father
It’s who you are, it’s who you are, it’s who you are
And I’m loved by you
It’s who I am, it’s who I am, it’s who I am
Because you are perfect in all of your ways
You are perfect in all of your ways
You are perfect in all of your ways to us
You are perfect in all of your ways
You are perfect in all of your ways
You are perfect in all of your ways to us
Oh, it’s love so undeniable
I, I can hardly speak
Peace so unexplainable
I, I can hardly think
As you call me deeper still
As you call me deeper still
As you call me deeper still
Into love, love, love

I just find it so comforting that “I’m never alone”. While bumps in our walk with christ do and will happen, it is so uplifting to know that our God will not leave us to be alone… EVER. He is a “Good Good Father” and we are “loved by” HIM. I also find it so comforting to know that when we question ourselves, that God knows the answers to everything even “before we say a word”. Words can’t describe the LOVE that our Good Good father has for each of us, it is so true “I can hardly speak”.

On this Father’s Day, not only am I beyond thankful for my own daddy (btw who is so ahhhhmazing!!!!!!), I am also thankful for our Heavenly Father. It is so comforting to know that our Good Good Father always welcomes us with open arms and unconditional love.

happy sunday friends + happy father’s day to all the amazing dads out there!
